Seowon, the Origin of the Honam Confucian
Dowon Seowon is located
at 915 Yeonwol-ri, Dongbok-myeon. It
was built by local Confucian scholars
in the 9th year of Kong Hyeonjong of
the Joseon Dynasty(1668) to memorize
Sinjae Choi San-du, who came into exile
in the Gimyo calamity of savants. It
enshrines Seokcheon Im Eok-ryeong, former
chief of Dongbok-hyeon in the 28th year
of King Jungjong(1553), Hangang Jeong
Gu, former chief of Dongbok-hyeon in
the 17th year of King Seonjo(1584),
and Usan Ahn Bang-jun, a great scholar
of Sung Confucianism, who was born at
Boseong.
