Tourist Info > Tourist Attraction > Temple > Yumasa
Yumasa is
nestled in Mt. Mohu having a cool stream
and thick woods and you can enjoy the
serenity of the temple because few tourists
stop here.
It has many traditions: Yumaun was surprised
at his daughter Boan's wisdom when they
were in China and they came to this
mountain.
Boan contended against a young monk
who wanted her and finally she won him
by taking the moon under Jawol Stream.
Boangyo Bridge's tradition that Boan
brought it by her skirt makes here more
human. Mt. Mohu also holds some stories:
King Gongmin took refuge from Hongeonjok's
invasion.
Kim Seong-won hid in the Japanese Invasion
of Korea in 1592 to protect his family
and fought with Japanese invaders.
Partisans used here as their strategic point
in the Korean War.
Try rice wine loved by our ancestors, soaking
your feet in babbling water. Yumasa is one
of temples that are believed to build in the
Baekje Period in the Jeonnam area. Unfortunately,
any relics in the Baekje have not found yet.
Unlike other temples in Hwasun, you can enter
Yumasa via thick woods. You will have fresh
energy in the thick woods.
